India

India is an amazing place and a must to visit. There is a totally different culture to see as well as many attractions. Within Delhi there are many Forts and Temples such as the Red Fort and the Lotus Temple. If staying in Delhi, Agra is worth a day trip to visit the Taj Mahal in all it’s glory.

If travelling around the north, Dharamsala will show you another culture with the Dalai Lama’s residence and many Tibetan’s living nearby. Also if you want to steer away from the biggest city Shimla is a lovely place up in the hills and a bit cooler with less attention. There is also Jakhoo Temple well worth a visit, honouring the monkey, so it is one of the places that has the most wild monkeys around the area. Chandigarh is also a lovely area with rockgardens well worth a visit, with many statues made out of recycled materials such as bracelets.

Amritsar is also a must if you have the time, the Golden Temple is beautiful, and being on the border of Pakistan you could watch a procession at the end of the day between the Indian and Pakistani guards before they take they flags down at the border.  There are so many things to see and try, and in your travels you could find out interesting things you didn’t know before!

Watch the Sun Set and the Sun Rise

A lot of people have seen the sun set or the sun rise at somepoint in their daily lives. But who has stopped to take the time to admire its beauty, cuddle up with a loved one or made it a significant part of an event like a beach party or camping. To stay up as well after the sun has set until the sun rises again, how many of you have done this? All nighters can be tough sometimes but they can also be a lot of fun, for example you could do it at New Year!

Quad Biking

The thrill of speeding along the dirt track, the worry at swerving around the corners is all part of the joy of quad biking. There are different quad bikes for adults and children, and naturally helmets are a must! It’s amazing how quickly you get used to the quad bike though and are happily whizzing around trying to stop familiar faces getting past you and trying to overtake others. It’s a lot of fun but it doesn’t hurt to be a bit cautious and slow down at corners so not to overshoot and end up in the wrong place!

Volunteer to Assist on a Holiday

By volunteering to help on a holiday I mean helping the holiday makers to enjoy themselves on their break. The break can mean a lot to the holiday makers to escape their normal routine. The break can make a lot of difference to the families of the holiday makers as well.

Charities all over the place organise these holidays usually during the summer. Depending on the charity the children could be from disadvantages backgrounds, so the holiday can give them a chance to try new activities like horseriding and canoeing. The children could be disabled so your role as a volunteer would be as a carer for that child so that they are able to participate in activities. These holidays though depending on the charity can vary in the size of the group either small, such as 3 holiday makers, or big, such as  around 15 not including volunteers. Depending on the charity and the holiday, they can be also cater for all ages.

One charity that I volunteered to assist on a holiday for was for deafblind adults. The activities were centered around what the holiday makers wanted to do, so if they wanted a lie in, to go swimming and have a relaxing day followed by a long bath, that’s just what they did! It’s a totally new experience but you get to know everyone in your group so well, and as well as the holidaymaker enjoying their holiday, you have an amazing and unforgetable time as well! I would really recommend it as a worthwhile way to spend a week during the summer!

Have your facepainted!

Something that is so much fun to have done! A lot of people go for tigers and butterflies but why not try and be totally original in what you come up with like a dolphin or an alien! A facepainter would be a brilliant addition to a social get together or a family or friend event, like a birthday! Or you could always have a go at facepainting yourself with a few willing volunteers! There are books with step by step instructions for facepainting different animals and characters. Either way if you or your friends are attempting the facepainting, or each having your own face painted, it will be a lot of fun, and definately something to talk about!

Build a Giant Sandcastle

With or without the sun, the beach is a great place to go to with plenty to do such as running into the sea, surfing and swimming and of course making the most of the sand. I’m sure most of us if not all have made a sandcastle before, but who has made a giant sandcastle? A massive one where the mould has not been bought from shops? Why not attempt it, see how big a sandcastle you can make! You could add a drawbridge and a moat, you could decorate your castle with shells and sticks from the beach, you could even give your castle a flag! When something takes a long time to make, it seems so much more of an achievement when you finish it and see the result of all your hard work!

Ride a Scooter

Ever had a ride on a scooter? In another country zipping through the caos of cars it can be pretty daunting so hold on tight!

It’s a good way to see first hand how the traffic works within a certain country though as you pass it by. Seeing how in different countries honking and indicating can mean different things, and how in some countries there are crowds of cars with no clear lanes so the traffic jam may last a while!

Fencing

Why not attend a fencing lesson or taster! You could take family or friends, make it competitive or just for a bit of fun. You could even be imaginative and pretend you were in a famous TV or film scene like the three musketeers! With some instructors for the sword fighting there is the option of plastic ones as well as metal. So if you are a little wary you can always opt to practise with plastic! Everyone must wear protective headgear for safety, that will be provided. Also when not practising what the instructor is teaching remember to keep your sword facing the floor and not waving it around where someone could get hurt!
